The Best Ways to Store All Those Sexy Shoes: Racks, Trees, and Storage

As you can imagine, I have a million pairs of sexy, designer, cheap, expensive, comfortable, and beautifully hurtful shoes in my closet. And, until a couple of years ago, those beautiful shoes were displayed not very artfully in a heap at the bottom of my closet. Every time I wanted to wear a particular pair of sexy shoes, I had to dig through the pile to find two shoes that actually matched.

Then my husband (then boyfriend), of all people, introduced me to the wonders of shoe storage. Now my sexy shoes are available at a glance and it's much easier to find just the right pair of shoes for any outfit. Here's what I found in my shoe storage research.

If you have a decent size closet, as I do, the best shoe storage is an over the closet door shoe organizer. I currently have a metal shoe storage rack which has two hooks which hang over the top of the closet door. My husband has a cloth shoe rack over the closet door organizer which holds individual shoes in each pocket. His shoe organizer works well for him, but I prefer the metal rack version because I can squish more shoes than it's designed to hold when I need to (which is most of the time!).
Another option I looked into and used briefly is a shoe shelving unit or shoe compartment shelves which live at the bottom of your closet. The only trouble with this option is that your sexy long dresses and skirts can make it difficult to see and touch all those great shoes.
One thing that works well if you have some particularly delicate shoes with sequins and other fragile features is a set of stacking shoe boxes. Each box holds one pair of shoes and they're designed to easily slide one out at a time. The key here is to make sure you get clear plastic shoe boxes (so that you can see those shoes!).
Finally, if you really want a way to display all those designer shoes you're so proud of, a revolving shoe tree may be just what you need. The revolving shoe tree is designed to sit on the floor and you can rotate it to see all your sexy shoes. This is the perfect shoe storage choice if you have a lot of floor space, but not much closet space.
