Shoe Woes: How to Treat and Prevent Them

Even the best made sexy designer shoes can sometimes cause distress to your poor overworked feet. And, let's face it, most of us don't have the luxury of spending the day in nice supportive running shoes (and wouldn't want to because we love our sexy strappy high heeled shoes!). So what can we do to keep our feet happy while still displaying our sexy shoes in all their glory?

Shoe problem: Blisters. There's nothing worse than needing to hobble home after a night out because those delightfully sexy designer shoes gave you blisters! In order to prevent this unfortunate foot mishap, try to start with the right size shoe. Even if you're wearing sexy stiletto heels, the right size will at least reduce the risk of blisters. Also, always wear in new shoes around the house before venturing out. In addition, to prevent blisters, it's a good idea to make sure you keep your feet dry and make double sure your toes have plenty of room.

If you do find that your sexy designer shoes have caused a blister, cover it with a band-aid, or, better yet, buy moleskin at your local pharmacy.

Shoe problem: Sore arches. Occasionally, particularly when wearing high heels, we may find that the arches of our feet ache with soreness. The best way to avoid this is to choose lower heeled and block heeled shoes. Look for sexy designer shoes with clear arch support (instead of, say, flat flip flops, choose thongs with a bit of an upward curve in the center). If you have very susceptible feet, try to spend less time barefoot (during which you have no arch support).

To treat sore arches, avoid walking to rest those feet. Alternate flexing and pointing your feet gently to stretch them out. If those sexy shoes really made you sore, you might try icing your feet to reduce the swelling and then massaging your feet. Lastly, you can buy shoe inserts which lend extra arch support to any designer shoe.

Shoe problem: Odorous feet. We've all had that one pair of sexy leather shoes which, after wearing without socks, have caused our feet to smell less than delectable. The best way to deal with unfortunate foot odor is to wash you feet with soap and lukewarm water at least once a day. Change your socks if they get very sweaty. When buying socks as well as shoes, choose natural materials like wool or cotton, and leather or cloth. You can also help alleviate the problem by taking off those sexy designer shoes when you can (at your desk for example). Choose a different pair of shoes each day to give them time to dry out. And finally, dust those shoes with a bit of foot powder for extra protection
